SET OF 14 UNIFORM VOLUMES OF QUIXOTE AND ITS TWO APOCRYPHAL SUITES CERVANTES SAAVEDRA (Miguel de). HISTOIRE DE L'ADMIRABLE DON QUICHOTTE DE LA MANCHE. Paris, Nyon, 1754. Six volumes in six volumes in-12 (frontispiece, viii, 440 pp, 9 plates // 4 ff, 432 pp, 3 plates // 5 ff, 442 pp, 7 plates // 6 ff, 532 pp, 12 plates // 5 ff, 494 pp, 5 plates // 5 ff, 501 pp, 3 plates), full contemporary marbled calf, ornate smooth spines. Some dull corners and headbands. New edition of Filleau de Saint Martin's translation, revised, corrected and enlarged. It is illustrated with forty plates (some displaced) drawn by Humblot and Bonnard; engraved by Cars, Mathey and Crepy. Palau, 52737: does not cite this edition at the Nyon address, whose privilege must be shared with the Compagnie des Libraires (nor Rius, 494; nor Henrich, 267). It would appear to be a reprint of the 1732 edition, whose plates are imitations by Coypel. [Followed by]: [LESAGE Alain-René]. Suite Nouvelle et Véritable de l'Histoire et des Aventures de l'Incomparable Don Quichotte de la Manche, traduite d'un Manuscrit Espagnol de Cid Hamet Benengely son véritable Historien. A Paris, Chez Nion, 1741. Six volumes in six volumes (2 ff, lxiv, 405 pp, 1 f, frontispiece, 10 plates // 4 ff, 418 pp, 9 plates // 4 ff, 424 pp, music plate and 4 plates // 2 ff, 449 pp, 3 plates // 2 ff, 518 pp, 5 plates // III, 440 pp, 4 plates) full contemporary calf. This suite, described as extravagant by Palau (52732), is attributed to Alain-René Lesage. . [Followed by]: AVELLANEDA (Alonso Fernandez de). Nouvelles Aventures de l'Admirable Don Quichotte de la Manche: et traduites de l'Espagnol en François pour la première fois. A Paris, par la Compagnie des Libraires, 1738. Two volumes in two volumes in-12 (frontispiece, viii, 447 pp, 8 plates // frontispiece, iv, 509 pp, 8 plates), full contemporary calf. 2 plates repaired (pp 93 and 199), hole on p. 197, stains on pp 459 ff of volume II.
