FIRST EDITION OF FLORIAN'S "ADAPTATION
CERVANTES / FLORIAN.
Three volumes in three volumes in-8, full porphyry calf, finely decorated smooth spines, gilt lace on covers, gilt edges (period binding). A very fine copy.
First edition of Florian's translation. It is illustrated with 24 plates drawn by Lefebre and Barbier, engraved by Masquelier, Coiny, Halbou, Godefroy, Gaucher and Dambrun.
This new translation was hotly contested, notably by Viardot.
