ORIGINAL EDITION OF THE TRANSLATION BY BOUCHON DUBOURNIAL CERVANTES. OEUVRES CHOISIES. Paris, Imprimerie des Sciences et des Arts, 1807. Eight volumes in four in-12 (2 ff, xii, 132 pp, 1 f, xx pp, 1 f, 231 pp // 2 ff, 396 pp, 1 f // 2 ff, 319 pp, 1 f // 2 ff, 366 pp, 1 f / 391 pp, 2 ff // 402 pp, 2 ff // 391 pp, 2 ff // 349 pp, 2 ff), tan half calf, smooth spines decorated with gilt lace (Period binding). A fine copy. First edition of the translation by H. Bouchon Dubournial, a former French engineer and former first professor at the Spanish Military Academy. Despite the title Œuvres choisies, this is his complete new translation of Don Quixote, which was to be followed by Les Nouvelles, Persiles and other works. This edition is illustrated with a portrait of the author and fifteen plates drawn by Duchaulchoy and engraved by Simon, Benoist, Marchand, Marye and Dien. These unusual illustrations are as strange and naive as you could wish! Rius, 519; Henrich, 294.
