Comment: Kogan was a Russian Suprematist/Constructivist artist and member of the UNOWIS artists' group.
As a very talented girl, she received extensive artistic training and studied at the School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in Moscow from 1911-1913. She became acquainted with various greats of her time, such as Kazimir Malevich and Marc Chagall, under whose direction she directed the Vitebsk Art School. Thanks to her, the artistic implementation of Suprematism in the performing arts was made possible by the 'Suprematist Ballet'. She is considered the most famous artist of post-revolutionary Russia. In 1942, she starved to death during the siege of Leningrad by the Wehrmacht. The former extent of her work can only be guessed at today, as her possessions were confiscated after her death and probably largely destroyed. The work offered here shows Kogan's usual clear and concrete compositional form.
