Farhad Orouji is an Iranian artist, curator and tutor. He has been living in Italy since 2005.In Rosso, the artist explores a different type of journey, the one linked to the transience of things and the recycling of materials that become unusable in a short me. This artwork, along with the others from the same series, recalls very much the type of the decora on belonging to the Islamic tradition. A source of inspira on could be the articulated and perfectly symmetrical geometric patterns that decorate the domes of important religious buildings not only in Iran but in the en re Muslim world. In the artwork, however, the resulting spaces in the complex patterns are not filled with vegetal and geometric motifs, but with a collage of supermarket brochures, making Rosso an example of the encounter between tradition and modernity and the representation of one of the several aspects of the so-called pop culture. Signed and dated at the back.Provenance: the artist.
