Amjed Rifaie is an Iraqi artist and master calligrapher, born in Baghdad. He moved to Italy more than ten years ago and developed his artistic practice in Rome, where he still lives. His talent and dedication have led him to hold courses and workshops in major universities, such as La Sapienza in Rome, as well as cultural centres, schools and embassies. He has also collaborated with the Etihad airline company and the Ministry of Tourism of Abu Dhabi and Qatar. Rifaie has exhibited his works in several exhibitions and events in Italy and abroad and one of his most important achievements is the decoration of the Iraqi Room at the FAO headquarters in Rome. The work on display is dedicated to the poem ‘Your Perfume’ by Nizar Qabbani (1923-98). Qabbani is one of the most important contemporary poets in the Arab world and is also the national poet of Syria. Provenance: the artist.
