Sadegh Tabrizi is considered one of the pioneers of modern Iranian art. In his artistic production, Tabrizi adopted motifs and forms inspired by Iranian tradition, calligraphy, Persian miniatures, Qajar painting and murals. Religious symbols and traditional folk art were also an integral part of his practice. The artist has exhibited his works in a large number of solo and group exhibitions and part of his production is kept in the permanent collections of important museums and prestigious private collections in Iran and abroad. During his career, he also received commissions for large public works. In this painting, the artist has focused his attention on calligraphy, adding layers of inscriptions to the work. In the foreground, the largest inscription forms a kind of mashrabiyya, a wooden lattice window, which allows the woman to observe the outside without being seen. Signed lower right. Provenance: Italian private collection.
