Attributed to Rodolphe BRESDIN (1822-1885)
Lively riverside landscape; in the background, a city
Pen and black ink, gray wash on card stock
H. 10.5 cm - L. 17 cm DB
Monogrammed (?) "RB" (inverted R) on the shoreline at center; countersigned (?) lower right "R Bredin 1854" (inverted R).
The signature without "s" on this drawing is problematic, or else it is a unicum. The drawing, though beautifully executed, seems a little too classical for our artist. The support is also unusual. Without overlooking the possibility of an unusual work - one might think of the influence in his youth of an artist like Charles-André Malardot (1817-1879) - the drawing could be a later imitation.
