A BRONZE FIGURE OF BUDDHA AMITAYUS, TIBET, 19TH CENTURY
Finely cast, seated in dhyanasana on a double-lotus throne with his hands lowered in dhyana mudra. Dressed in a dhoti arranged in tight folds beneath his legs, a long shawl which flares out from the sides, and adorned with fine jewelry. The figure’s face with a serene expression, the hair arranged in a high chignon behind the foliate tiara.
Provenance: Old Austrian private collection. Viennese private collection, acquired from the above.
Condition: Very good condition with minor wear, casting flaws, and the water vessel lost. The bronze is covered in a rich, chocolate patina which darkens in the recesses.
