A CELADON AND RUSSET JADE CARVING OF A PHOENIX, 17TH-18TH CENTURY China. Finely carved, the nicely balanced composition depicting a phoenix perched on its three-clawed feet, its chest puffed out, and its long head comb extending down its back. The face with a short beak and flaring feathers below its cheeks, its wings tucked neatly to its side finely incised with feathers and comma scrolls. The semi-translucent jade of a celadon tone with black, dark brown, and russet inclusions, icy veining, and cloudy elements. Provenance: Belgian private collection. Condition: Very good condition with minor wear and microscopic nibbling to edges. The jade with natural fissures, some of which may have developed into small hairline cracks.
