A CARVED CELADON GLAZED ‘PEONY’ BRUSHPOT, BITONG, KANGXI PERIOD China, 1662-1722. Of cylindrical form, supported on three short bracket feet and with an incurved rim, the sides finely carved in low relief with a continuous foliate scroll of four large peony blooms borne on leafy stems framed by stylized wave and foliate scroll bands. Covered overall in a vitreous sea-green glaze, pooling to a darker tone in the recesses, stopping at the flat base and revealing the gray body partially burnt to orange. Provenance: Canadian trade, acquired from a private estate in Toronto. The interior with an old label. Condition: Good condition with expected old wear and firing irregularities including pitting, glaze recesses, dark spots, and a single area of glaze misfiring. Scratches and nicks to the base and along the rim. The rim with shallow minor chips.
