A BLUE AND WHITE GINGER JAR, KANGXI PERIOD China, 1662-1722. Finely painted in shades of cobalt blue with two quatrefoil cartouches enclosing ‘Precious Objects’ against a prunus and cracked-ice ground, the shoulder with a hatched band encircling the short unglazed cylindrical neck, the foot rim unglazed as well and partially burnt to orange in the firing. Inscriptions: The base with two old labels, ‘S2 17000 Yahao’ and ‘Chinese Porcelain, Gewerts Antiques Boras-Sweden, Chien Lung (1736-1795)’. Provenance: From a Swedish private collection. Condition: Very good condition with minor wear and firing irregularities including pitting and dark spots. Fritting and shallow chips to the rim and foot. Few light scratches. The wood cover with minor wear, few chips and nicks, and a fine dark-brown patina. Weight: 1,313 g Dimensions: Height 24 cm (incl. cover and base) The well-carved hardwood cover decorated with pierced shou characters and surmounted by a jewel-shaped finial, dating from the 19th or early 20th century.
