A BLUE AND WHITE ‘KLAPMUTS’ BOWL, KANGXI PERIOD
China, 1662-1722. The deep rounded sides rising from a short foot to a broad flared petal-lobed rim, finely painted in shades of cobalt-blue to the interior with a central roundel enclosing floral sprays and craggy rockwork, encircled by six shaped panels enclosing similar floral sprays, against a reverse-decorated wan-diapered ground, and to the exterior with rectangular panels enclosing alternating precious objects and floral sprays, below evenly spaced flowerheads borne on leafy vines to the rim. The base with an underglaze-blue one-character seal mark.
Inscriptions: To the base, ‘zhi’ (‘Imperial order’).
Provenance: Dutch trade. Acquired from an old private estate.
Condition: Very good condition with minor wear and firing irregularities including pitting and dark spots. Few frits and shallow chips along the rim and foot.
