A LARGE BRONZE FIGURE OF SHIVA India, 19th century. Heavily cast standing in a tribhanga atop a hexagonal base raised on a square plinth incised with foliate design and tassels, one arm raised with a thunderbolt clutched tightly between the palm, the other bent at the elbow with the tail of a cobra wound snug around the wrist, the flaring hood of the snake raised to the shoulder. The barefoot deity adorned in beaded jewelry and dressed in a pleated dhoti tied elegantly around the waist and incised with geometric motif, with a sash draped loosely across the shoulder. The sincere face gently tilted and detailed with almond shaped eyes under arched brows, flanked by ears issuing foliate earrings, the hair tied to the back in a loose knot secured with a flower and the head crowned by a tiered crown backed by a tiara. Provenance: Old Austrian private collection. Condition: Good condition with minor wear and casting flaws. Few nicks, light scratches, some rubbing, tiny dents, and signs of weathering and erosion.
