A JAIN COSMOLOGICAL DIAGRAM, GUJARAT, 18th-19TH CENTURY
Western India. Distemper on cloth, mounted and framed behind glass. Painted with alternating circles of green, yellow and red with two oceans connecting the different sections separated by dividing lines, painted with fish and turtles swimming in their waters. A sun is at the center of the diagram, flanked by several smaller horizontal and vertical divisions.
Provenance: From a private collection in Spain since 1985. Collection of Carlos Cruañas Dalmau, Barcelona, acquired from the above.
Condition: Good condition with wear, soiling, light fraying to edges, stains, and minor losses.
