A LARGE DRY LACQUER FIGURE OF BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI, BURMA, 18TH – 19th CENTURY
Finely modeled, seated in dhyanasana on a raised pedestal covered in red, gold and black lacquer, holding his right hand in bhumisparsha mudra and his left in dhyana mudra. Wearing a tight-fitting monastic robe draped lightly over his shoulders, his serene face with full lips forming a calm smile flanked by elongated earlobes, and his hair arranged in tight curls over the ushnisha surmounted by a tall ketumala. The pedestal fitted with ring tangs to secure the figure in place.
Provenance: French private collection.
Condition: Very good condition with wear, small nicks, minor cracks to the lacquer, and only remnants of the gilt.
