A GILT-BRONZE RING IN THE FORM OF A DRAGON, JAVA, 18TH-19TH CENTURY OR EARLIER
Indonesia. Finely cast with minute detailing and filigree, the band formed by the slender scaly body of the dragon, its large head emerging from its coiling body to reveal its ferocious face and sharp teeth.
Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
Condition: Very good condition, commensurate with age, with wear, manufacturing irregularities, and minute encrustations.
