2nd half 18th century. Deer hunt. Reddish Terracotta, reddish, partially brightly painted. Three hunting dogs and a deer, mounted on a rectangular plinth. Rest.
Old private collection, Stuttgart.
In the Benedictine Abbey of Kremsmünster there is a counterpart to our deer hunt, a group of 4 hunting dogs with a bear. Die Bildhauer-Familie Schwanthaler 1633-1848, exhibition Augustinerchorherrenstift Reichersberg am Inn, 1974, cat. no. 239 with illus. Christie's auctioned a pair of terracotta figures by Johann G. Schwanthaler (Löwenhatz and Bärenhatz) from the collection of The Hon. Henry Montagu Upton for USD 27,400 in 2007 (19 October 2007, lot 94).
