Portrait of a gentleman from the Kraffter family in a doublet with fur trimming. OiI/panel, upper right dated 1562, inscribed AE 73 CAP, coat of arms on the left.
Collection Baron von Ellmendorff, Veynau Castle. The Kraffter family, probably originally from Nuremberg, was extremely successful in trade in Augsburg from the middle of the 16th century and was ennobled by the emperor in 1548, but went bankrupt in 1560 as a result of money transactions. Lorenz II Kraffter was consul in the Fondaco dei Tedeschi in Venice in 1599, 1600 and 1614.
