JAPAN - MEIJI period (1868 - 1912)
Large four-legged incense burner in bronze with brown patina, the four-lobed body with chased decoration of a phoenix in flight in the clouds against a background of archaic interlacing, framed by friezes of foam, fleurons and Greques. The handles are shaped like dragons. The feet, clasped by qilin, rest on a four-lobed pedestal decorated with florets on an interlacing background. Polylobed lid decorated with a frieze of lotus flowers and Greek foliage on a background of interlacing, and a dolphin-shaped grip in the foam (Accidents, missing).
