Still life with fruit, 1925. Oil on canvas, signed and dated upper left. 65 x 81 cm. Wood frame. Hugo Adami was born in São Paulo, Brazil, into a family of Italian origin. After studying art, he traveled to Italy, where he enrolled at the Florence Academy of Fine Arts in 1922. He befriended Giorgio De Chirico. In 1924, he took part in the fourteenth Venice Biennale. In 1925, he discovered Paris, where he fell in love with the paintings of Paul Cézanne. Back in Brazil Brazil in 1928, he had his first solo exhibition in São Paulo. He made many more trips to Europe, exhibited at the seventeenth Venice Biennale in 1930, and settled permanently in Rio in 1940. Our still life, dating from the Paris period, illustrates the Cézanne influence on the Brazilian painter. A rare artist on the art market, whose still lifes are the object of collectors' interest.
