[RECTIFICATION TO CATALOGUE] Mirror with solar decoration, Iran qâjâr, late 19th century
Mirror on a baluster base resting on a convex, poly-lobed rim. The mirror is housed in a poly-lobed case that closes with a circular hinged and hooked flap. The whole in steel with engraved, openwork, repoussé, partially gilded and silvered decoration, enhanced with small brass studs. The case and base are covered with a floral design punctuated by medallions featuring two kneeling figures on the foot. The shutter features a central repoussé solar face, its openwork rays alternating with calligraphic mandorls in Persian nasta'liq. The rim is adorned with cartouches containing inscriptions in Persian nast'aliq. On the back of the mirror, engraved decoration of a rosette of mandorles, some with flowered double-appendices, linked by foliage scrolls and standing out against a plant background populated with birds.
Height: 53.5 cm
Oxidation, rust, mainly under the base, inside of lid refinished and painted with gilded paint, mirror replaced, slight knocks and accidents. Mirror case probably refixed on its base.
