Dry lacquered and gilded.
Restoration barely visible on the head.
Measurements: 96 x 58 x 40 cm.
Burmese Buddha from the 18th century, Shan style, dry lacquered and gilded, with a beautiful aged patina that reveals the underlying color. The Buddha has a smiling and peaceful expression, seated on a pedestal in a "call the witnessing earth" position. Seated in dhyanasana, with the right hand lowered in bhumisparsa mudra and the left hand on the lap, he wears a samghati over the left shoulder, the face serene with lowered eyes, gently arched eyebrows and full lips forming a calm smile, flanked by elongated earlobes, hair gathered in tight spikes with a high ushnisha topped by a jewel.
From Arakan, Burma. Shan period, 18th century.
