Pair of vases. China, second half of the nineteenth century, Qing dynasty, Canton Rose Family style. Glazed porcelain. Presents old restorations. They have two hairs. Measurements: 90 x 40 cm. Pair of Cantonese Rose Family style vases, decorated with enamels and reliefs. This ornamental style is characterized by the predominance of light and very luminous tonalities, especially pink and green. It is a style typical of ceramics exported to Europe, developed mainly during the second half of the 19th century. It is an ornate and very ornamental style, usually decorated with figurative scenes, and mainly characterized by the use of a wider palette than that of the normal Rose Family, dominated by light and bright shades, mainly pinks and greens. Thanks to the discovery of the white glaze, Chinese potters expanded the palette achieving new tonal ranges that would allow them to conform more to European tastes. In addition, as we see here, these pieces are often enriched with gilded details, very much to Western tastes. The vase, with a circular base, has an ovoid belly and a slender neck, topped with a trumpet mouth with an undulating profile. Both the body and the neck include figurative scenes, framed by orthogonal borders, inspired by the ancient imperial court. The backgrounds are entirely covered with motifs of flowers and insects. They present old restorations. Two hairs are present.
