A sacred object among Australia's aboriginal peoples, the tjurunga belonged to an individual or a group.
Traditionally, only initiated men were allowed to own one, as it came from a founding ancestor of the totemic clan and held great importance in the realm of the sacred, being carefully preserved in a secret place.
Carved and incised on both sides with a series of engraved geometrically decorated lines alternating between circles and squares, this piece has a beautiful, bright orange color.
