[GARDEN] - LA QUINTINYE: Instruction pour les jardins fruitiers et potagers, avec un traité des orangers et des réflexions sur l'Agriculture. Paris, compagnie des Libraires Associés, 1756. 2 vols. in-4 bound in contemporary marbled calf, spine ribbed and decorated, red edges (foxing, corners worn). New edition, revised and corrected, illustrated with plates. A good copy, despite brown spots. Jean-Baptiste de la Quintinie (1626-1688), the famous French gardener and agronomist, brought together all his experience and thoughts in this Instruction, which brought him immense posthumous fame. The work stands out from the other agricultural treatises of his time for its rational method, its eloquence and its scientific inclination. In just a few decades, it became a reference in the field of fruit tree cultivation, and was translated into English as early as 1693, as well as being copied many times.
