Jean-Baptiste CARPEAUX (1827-1875) La Rieuse napolitaine n°2 Model created in 1864; studio edition from 1872 Terracotta bust Stamped "PROPRIETE CARPEAUX" with imperial eagle and Auteuil workshop stamp Bears the number "1777". Height Height : 25.5 cm Related literature: - Michel Poletti, Alain Richarme, Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux, sculpteur : catalog raisonné de l'œuvre édité, Paris, 2003, model listed under no. BU 48, p. 150. Provenance: Jacques & Michèle GINEPRO Collection This is the portrait of Anna Foucart, eldest daughter of Jean-Baptiste Foucart, a close friend of Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux. Carpeaux painted the young girl in 1860 and reused the model several times, adapting it for Rieuse napolitaine in 1863 and Rieuse aux roses in 1872. Here, the emphasis is on traditional Neapolitan costume, as a counterpart to the bust of Le Rieur napolitain, one of the Valenciennes sculptor's greatest successes. Expert : Cabinet LACROIX & JEANNEST
