Ary Bitter, a native of Marseille, entered the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 1902, where he trained with Ernest-Louis Barrias while working in Jules Coutan's studio. In 1910, he took part in the Salon des artistes français, where he won the gold medal in 1924.
