André FRANQUIN (1924-1997) Indian ink dedication in the album "Spirou et les Héritiers", head of Spirou. Format approx. 15 x 20 cm André Franquin was born on January 3, 1924 in Etterbeek and died on January 5, 1997 in Saint-Laurent du Var. He was a Belgian comic strip artist best known for his Spirou et Fantasio, Gaston Lagaffe, Modeste et Pompon and Les idées noires series. He is also the creator of the Marsupilami, an imaginary animal.
