Reclinatory. Italy, XVII century.
Carved wood.
Measurements: 88 x 50 x 42 cm.
The recliner presents a refined design, which bases its main formal values on the curved line and the decorative synthesis. It is supported on three legs, the front one turned and finished off with a sphere. The two rear legs, on the other hand, end in two very synthetic claws. The lower platform, destined to support the knees of the orante, has a carved skirt with an undulating profile. Above this platform rises the shaft that supports the upper platform, used to hold the prayer book or the missal. The shaft adopts a format of phytomorphic inspiration, with an undulating profile. The upper platform again has an undulating profile and is decorated, like the lower one, with a delicate skirt in a mixtilinear format.
