Aubusson design rug; End of the 20th century.
Three ply wool.
Design by Miguel Stuyck.
Measurements: 275 x 183 cm.
Woven in high-warp loom.
Carpet made in wool of three threads. The carpet presents a field in ochre and pink tones with a floral decoration combined with vegetal elements, arranged in the reserved areas. The border is composed of a single band in a red tone, the same as the central area reserved in the field, following a similar design to visually unify the composition. Aubusson wool rugs were first woven by hand in the town of Aubusson from which they take their name. Aubusson style rugs are extremely refined, following 19th century weaving patterns.
The factory of Miguel Stuyck, descendant of Jacob van der Gotem, after ten generations dedicated to the manufacture of carpets and tapestries, can be considered one of the most important in the world, since it has produced and continues to produce true works of art that have embellished the finest palaces, luxury hotels, banks, government agencies, etc.
