A little love whispers a secret in the ear of a Cupid, who carries a wicker basket overflowing with fruit. This is a biscuit group from Volkstedt, a manufacture established in Thuringia in 1762 by G. H. Micheleid (1723-1801), under the patronage of Prince Johann F. Schwarzburg of Rudolstadt. It adopted as its first trademark the trident of the princely coat of arms. Micheleid had previously worked in the Glücksthal art glass factory, and had begun his own research in the field of porcelain, surpassing his masters. He then decided to open his own factory, which soon acquired a great reputation thanks to its highly decorative sculptures, finally enameled and carefully modeled, intended for a wealthy public and highly sought after by collectors today.
