Italian school; XVIII century. "Madonna and Child". Oil on canvas. Relined. It presents restorations and damages caused by xylophages. It has inscription on the back. Measurements: 39 x 29 cm; 51 x 40 cm (frame). Oil on canvas that shows us an image of great tradition in Western art as the presentation of the Virgin and Child. The author resolves the scene through a simple composition that allows the viewer to empathize in a direct way with the image. In the foreground we can appreciate the Child Jesus lying on a white sheet that is being held by Mary in a delicate and maternal way. The Virgin observes her son in the background in a pious attitude, although her pink tunic iconographically indicates the sacrifice and the Calvary of her son. The neutral background that monumentalizes the figure of both protagonists and gives them the maximum prominence, added to an interest in capturing the filial maternal bond between the two characters, brings us closer to an advanced period in which religious representations, always linked to a didactic purpose, try to awaken in the faithful a high degree of empathy. For this reason, these images are conceived as a visual narration, which must always be clearly legible. It presents restorations and damages caused by xylophagous.
