Le prince Kouchimen, histoire tartare and Dom Alvar del Sol, histoire napolitaine From Jacques Estienne in Paris, 1710 - Uncommon first edition of this work attributed to Abbé de Choisy by Barbier and Quérard (some attribute it to Joseph-Gaspard Lambert de Guérin, a former engineer in the Russian service. Bound in contemporary full calf, spine decorated, leather loss at head. The first text refers, through the process of annagrame, to Alexander Danilovich Menchikov, a close associate of Tsar Peter I, and is a scathing critique of the latter's use of corruption to satisfy his ambitions. The second text, quite different, relates a romanticized version of the meeting between Anna Caraffa, princess of the Neapolitan house of Carafa, and Ramiro Núñez de Guzmán, 2nd Duke of Medina de las Torrès. In-12, 150pp. (2)
