[PROVENANCE] Unpublished letters from Mme de Maintenon and Mme la princesse des Ursins
From Adolphe Bossange, Paris, 1826 - A very fine copy of the first edition of this highly interesting correspondence which "throws great light on the intrigues of the end of the reign of Louis XIV and on the general history of this period (Quérard T.V, p448).
Louis-Philippe's copy in very fine period bindings signed Sale at the tail of volume 1 and bearing Louis-Philippe's monogram in the first and last boxes of each volume. Tan half calf, spine with 4 raised bands, cold decoration to the central boxes and gilt fillet ornamentation, good condition despite some rubbing, no cracks and corners untouched. Marbled edges.
Internally fresh, despite scattered brown spots. A handsome series, complete in all its volumes and in uniform bindings with a fine provenance.

Provenance: Louis-Philippe with his monogram on the spines of the bindings, the stamp "Bibliothèque du roi" in Neuilly and "Bibliothèque du château d'Eu" bearing his monogram on the title pages of each volume.
