Very rare first edition of the author's second novel, probably the most sought-after of Jules Janin's first editions. Two volumes bound in one in a magnificent binding perfectly established by Belz-Niédrée, full leather with richly ornamented five-rib spine, date place and title in gilt lettering, fully gilt edges, triple framing of gilt fillets on the boards, gilt lace counterpanes.
