Carved oak wedding chest. The richly carved front features a central cartouche depicting Apollo in a medallion flanked by chimeras. The front jambs feature two caryatids. The side panels are decorated with rosettes, flowers, shells and foliage. The top belt and plinths are richly decorated with shells and interlacing foliage. Normandy, late 16th century. H.83 W.140 D.62 cm. Restorations, accidents, missing parts and woodworm. Provenance: Seine Maritine private collection.
