[UNIFORMOLOGIE] Joseph-Anne DUNOYER de NOIRMONT & Alfred de MARBOT - French military costumes
A Paris, chez Clément éditeur et E.Gambart, London s.d (circa 1830-1860)
Three volumes, complete with this formidable publication, one of the finest ever produced on uniformology, presenting French military costumes from the organization of the first regular troops in 1439 to 1789.
These three volumes are complete with 300 MAGNIFICENT ORIGINAL COLOR LITHOGRAPHIES. Most of these depict the soldiers in action, rather than frozen as is often the case, describing the organization, armament, clothing and equipment of the various army corps.
Bound in period half-chagrin, with snags and splits (notably in the first volume), small leather tears and rubbing. The bindings are nevertheless solid. The interior is very fresh.
In-folio, (4) (6) 100pp, (4) (3) 48pp
Colas 1970; Lipperheide 2311 & 2313.
Provenance: René Lizard Library with bookplate bearing the motto "Trahit.Sva.Quemque.Voluptas".
