NOTICE
Born in Lyon, Ernest Meissonier was a pupil of Léon Cogniet and began exhibiting his paintings at the Salon of 1834. After the Italian campaign, he made a name for himself as a history painter. He exhibited widely at the Salon and founded the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts in 1889.
