Nicolas Jon GRIGORESCU (1838-1907), attributed to Hay cart with goats Gouache and watercolor on paper Signed "Grigorescu" lower right 16 x 24 cm Framed Condition report available on request: contact@neo-encheres.com NOTICE Born in Romania, he trained in classical painting and developed an academic style. At the age of 23, he left to study at the Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he met Auguste Renoir. While at Fontainebleau and Barbizon, he rubbed shoulders with Jean-François Millet and Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot. His brushstrokes gradually became freer through contact with these artists, the open-air motif and instantaneity. Interested in landscapes and scenes of rural life, he developed realistic themes rooted in peaceful daily life: work in the fields, animals, country landscapes. Close to the Impressionists, his prolific output can be seen in numerous public collections.
