Antoine MALLIARAKIS known as MAYO (1905-1990) The tamer Ink on paper Signed lower left 27 x 21 cm Condition report available on request: contact@neo-encheres.com NOTICE Antoine Malliarakis, known as Mayo, was a Surrealist painter of Greek origin who made his career in France. Between 1923 and 1927, he studied at the Beaux-Arts in Paris and frequented the Montparnasse district. He made friends with artists such as Desnos, Man-Ray and Tanguy, and frequented the Grand Jeu surrealist group. From 1966 to 1980, he lived in Rome, where he exhibited at the Annunciata gallery alongside Picasso. The end of his career was marked by an exhibition of his work at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 1986.
