NOTICE
A self-taught French painter, lithographer and upholsterer, his work was noticed by Jean Giono and Nicolas Untersteller.
He enrolled at the Beaux-Arts in Paris during the Occupation, where he studied with Maurice Brianchon and attended André Lhote's academy. As a young admirer of Albrecht Dürer, he began exhibiting in various Parisian salons. He competed for the Prix de Rome in 1950, winning the Second Grand Prix.
He tried his hand at many techniques, including watercolor, stained glass and tapestry. He was appointed professor at the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 1958. Alternating between post-cubism and figuration, his works are characterized by brilliant colors.
