Fiaschi, Caesar. Trattato dell'imbrigliare, maneggiare, et ferrare cavalli. Bologna, Anselmo Giaccarelli, 1556. In 4° (220 x 157 mm); 3 parts in 1 volume; [8], 171, [1] pages. Typographical mark to title page, 3 full-page wood-engraved plates depicting interiors of workshops and riding stables with related characters, numerous full-page woodcut illustrations depicting different types of bridles and riding exercises, some accompanied by related music (stains to last few papers, a few haloes, other defects.) 20th-century binding in half vellum with title in black on smooth spine.
First edition of one of the finest works on the art of handling. Of great interest is the presence of musical notations in the woods relating to riding exercises: in fact, Fiaschi was the first squire to combine music with riding.
