Engraved figured frontispiece, 1 engraved figured dedication plate, 17 full-page plates depicting scenes from the Bible, allegories and virtues, 213 emblematic figures, all engraved in the text (small woodworm hole in the white margin of some papers, sporadic flourishes and browning). Coeval vellum binding with manuscript title vertically on spine, hinged, traces of two endpapers.
First edition. Emblematic figures depict monuments of Bologna, Gregory XIII's city of origin, or dragons and snakes in allusion to the pope's coat of arms.
