Engraved frontispiece with coat of arms ofAnna Colonna Barberini, allegorical frontispiece bound before page 1, and 45 plates depicting plants and plant compositions, often in the Baroque context of the "Italian-style" garden (halo to frontispiece, defect to plate on page 407, lightly browned). Coeval vellum binding.
First Italian edition with lebelle plates depicting flowers, gardens and gardening tools engraved by Anna Maria Vaiana, while the 7 allegorical plates depicting Flora, designed by the Author, were drawn by Andrea Sacchi, Guido Reni and Pietro da Cortona and engraved by Johann Friedrich Greuter and Claude Mellan.
