Typographical mark to title page, author's portrait repeated for both volumes, numerous woodcut figures (lower corner of paper Qq6 restored with loss of text, pages 241-242 and index supplated in manuscript, title page restored with loss of text, also lined title page, other minor defects and restorations, lightly browned). First edition. Fundamental study of ichthyology and all varieties of aquatic life. Accompanying the work is the incredible iconographic apparatus depicting some 250 species of fish, shells, crustaceans, turtles, marine mammals including seals, dolphins, whales, killer whales and other marine animals including reptiles and starfish. Norman: Rondelet's work "influenced the development of ichthyological research and remained the gold standard for over a century."
