In 2nd (316 x 220 mm); 2 tomes in 1 volume; [4], 250 [but 248]; 266 [but 268] pages. 64 full-page woodcut plates in text, letterpress mark to title pages (slight halo to last three index cards, sporadic flourishes, handwritten notes to eyelet). Modern binding in imitation of a 17th-century half-leather binding with friezes and title in gold on red gusset.
Second edition following the first of 1598. Garrison & Morton 285: "first book devoted exclusively to the structure of a single species other than man" with plates inspired by Vesalius' De humani corporis fabrica.
