"My dear friend, I hope you received my little Scandale? and my best wishes for 51! ALAS, I'M WORRIED ABOUT THE PROBITY OF THIS LATEST UNDERGROUND PUBLISHER TOO! The 5th one that plays music for me! I never get a cent for my books! I'm outlawed! That's a load of crap! HERE'S TO HERRING AND PORRIDGE A LA MORT! TO MY UNDERGROUND PUBLISHERS! CHAMONIX AND SPORTS! When it's not them ripping me off, it's the French state! Seized for life! Why should they bother! Your faithful and sincere friend... But don't let them come and hit you in my interest! Oh, I'm wary! Out with the rest of them!" LOUIS-FERDINAND CELINE HAD JUST PUBLISHED SCANDALE AUX ABYSSES in November 1950, with Pierre Monnier, who had adopted the pseudonym Frédéric Chambriand.
