HEREDIA (José-Maria de). Autograph poem entitled "Épigramme votive". 14 verses in violet ink on one p. in-4. Sonnet originally published in the Revue des deux mondes on January 1, 1888, integrated in 1893 by José-Maria de Heredia in his collection Les Trophées. José-Maria de Heredia's original title was "Le vieux soldat", later crossed out and corrected. A Greek veteran is shown here displaying his weapons in homage to the god Ares, his swords, his shield, his helmet, his bow : ... Take the quiver too. Your eye seems to seek In their leather sheaths the archer's weapons, The arrows that the wind of battle scatters; It's empty. Do you think I've lost my features?
