MARIN MARIE (1901-1987)
Antarctic anchorage, circa 1925-1930
Watercolor
Signed lower right
54.5 x 75 cm
Note :
- Marin-Marie did his military service in 1925 on the "Pourquoi-Pas ?IV", Jean-Baptiste Charcot's polar exploration ship, and the two men became close friends. The artist then produced a number of watercolors based on photographs of Commandant Charcot's expeditions. This may refer to the Antarctic expedition of 1908-1910, during which the "Pourquoi-Pas ?IV" anchored for repairs at Deception Island, then a whaling port.
